Results of the online S.T.A.L.K.E.R. tournament

On June 15, 2008 the final battle in the first S.T.A.L.K.E.R. online multiplayer tournament was staged. On behalf of GSC Game World, we express our gratitude to the organizers - game web-portal UkrGame.net and also Intel and ASUS companies for their help with the competition prizes. Our special thanks goes to the team of STALKER Hispano for their assistance with the server of the game.

Finally, we are happy to announce the winners of the competitions:

Deathmatch
  • 1 place - Usken_CAT - Kiev (Ukraine)
  • 2 place - Hemi_ua - Kiev (Ukraine)
  • 3 place - Lonely.Spirit - Mariupol (Ukraine)
  • 4 place - Zidane - Cherkassy (Ukraine)
Artifact Hunt
  • 1 place - Team S&H - Ukraine
  • 2 place - Team [9M] - Russia
  • 3 place - Team Delta-S - Ukraine

And to cup it all, here's a few words from the Ukrgame.net administration:

"Our main goal was to prove that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. multiplayer is alive and that our community is interested in cyber-sports.

What is the result that we got? It is a difficult one to answer.

Is S.T.A.L.K.E.R. ready for the competitions? Yes, it is. No critical problems and no unsolvable problems here.
We have a very interesting and unique game with exclusive gameplay and a very active community.
We expected problems on the technical side, but we rather faced community-related problems. People are not ready yet.

1. Absolute lack of organization of the majority of players.
2. No tolerance to losing. Perhaps this was due to the first championship, so the players couldn’t imagine their opponents' level of play.
3. Disrespect the opponents.

Of course, it wasn't about every player. But the majority left a negative impression. Yes, we had exciting games and there were serious fights played. People can and want to but it looks like they are not ready for such events. And we must not forget that it was the first tournament, so many people were not ready to fight with real opponents one by one.

Still however, owing to this tournament we worked out the way of realization for online S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games. Also we have some new ideas with regards to playing in TDM and FFA modes.
